HuMPs and Hills Blog 2009

Having suffered from a lack of walking since the demise of our pooch in the middle of last year I thought I

I would take the bull by the horns and do a bit of hill walking through 2009

To help things a long I found a web site called http://www.hill-bagging.co.uk/ which lists all the main humps and bumps through England and Wales in a verity  of ways.

So starting off close to home we took a walk up

2nd January 2009.

The Wrekin 1335feet  [407mts] SJ 62808 08098

our old Wrekin Page

David,Sarah and Jean Norry  1335 feet up !

Lilleshall Island ? through the mist.....

Another through the mist shot. this time of Ironbridge Power Station.

The other claim for The Wrekin is bringing TV to Shropshire and the boarder counties opened in the mid 70's the Station also provides DTV signals. The original 100 KW analogue  transmitters are due to be turned off within the next couple of years.

You wouldn't think that after all the years people have been walking up The Wrekin people could still find things to throw but this picture proves they can !

9th Jan 2009.

Caer Caradoc Hill  1506 feet [459 metres] SO 47745 95395

View from  the south end of Caradoc.

Sarah and the adopted sheep dog who then went and rolled in something nasty and was told to go away !

FL Class 66 running south along the Shrewsbury - Hereford line.

15 Jan 2009.

 The Clee Hills  ~ Brown Clee 1772feet [540mts] SO 59366 86556

Abdon Burf on top of Brown Clee

Ponies are roaming free, though they are described as wild they are in fact quite friendly, wish I had brought some carrots !

few shots of the Clees mining past the Engine house wound wagons up and down the incline plain, which is now a tarmaced road for the BT relay station

Titterstone Clee Hill 1749feet  [533mts] SO 59140 77955

The NATS (CAA) Golf ball radar on top of The Clee

The quarry between Cleehill village and a long distance view of Clee hill , looking very much like a giant slag heap. I wonder how high it was before they took the top off ?

21 January 2009.

The Stiperstones 1759 feet [536 mt]  SO 36754 98650

View northwards from the car park at the South Western end of the Stiperstones

A slightly snowy path to the top.                     The trig point at the top, how did OS build them :-)

27 January 2008.

Pole Bank ~ Long Mynd  1693ft  [516m]  SO 41521 94443

Haddon Hill from the path leading to Light Spout Waterfall.

Myself at the trig point taken by the camera on the toposcope with a 10 second timer.

Nice toposcope shame its all in metric and the top of the hills was covered in fog.

Highlight of the day was the South Shropshire Hunt who were unable to find each other in the fog let alone any foxes !

That should be the lot for January 09, Only 4 more Marilyn's to do in Shropshire then its carry on with Shropshire's HuMPs or do I start on the next counties Marilyn's ?
