Derek's July Hills and Humps
2nd July 2009
Mynydd-y-briw 1119 feet SJ 17405 26075
Started the day with a little one, just a short but steep walk up from the road.
Yet another hill with a nice paved road thanks to O2 and Orange.
How ever from the top it did give a view of Gyrn Moelfre in the distance looking rather large and steep !
Gyrn Moelfre 1716 feet SJ 18444 29388
Not the hill to be doing on the warmest day of the year !
Cut off the bridle path and followed the dry stone wall to the top.
360 video view from the top of Gyrn Moelfre, sorry about the wind noise.
Just found this on BBC News, its one way of getting your county tops out of the way :-)

Cleeve Hill 1082 feet SO 99696 24599
Gloucestershire county top

Cheltenham (with the race course on the right) from Cleeve Hill

With the car park being next to the radio masts its not much of a slog to this summit !
Frith Hill 764 feet SO 71800 39400

This is an hill for the winter, there is quite a network of paths but with the hill being so heavily wooded there is very limited views.

Afon Tarennig looking quite impressive after heavy rain.

The old road to the mine provides a good start to the walk steadily gaining height.

Old way post still pointing the way up after 130 years

Looking towards Cadair Idris

Remains of from what I can Google is a USAAF P-38 Lightning from WW2

Needless to say that over the years the the wreck as been stripped of anything with a serial number or makers mark on it.
Though whats left of the body was badly corroded other parts made of stainless steel were as bright as the day they left the factory.

Looking back up the mountain, he was a good couple of hundred feet from clearing the top...

Moel Famau 1817ft SJ 16115 62670 MDCU

Not quite in focus but trying to hold the camera was not easy in the high wind!
